COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Patrons wanting to use electronic cigarettes at Ohio's casinos where smoking tobacco is prohibited are out of luck at three casinos in the state, although others are allowing them.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/14Y5Nva) reports that Hollywood Casino Columbus, Scioto Downs Casino & Racetrack, and Hollywood Casino Toledo have banned the cylindrical devices that often look like a cigarette. Inhaling on the devices turns on a pressure-activated switch, heating up nicotine-infused liquid inside and creating and releasing a vapor that is inhaled and then exhaled.
Electronic cigarettes, also known as e-cigarettes, are permitted at the Horseshoe casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati and the recently opened ThistleDown racino near Cleveland.
A state spokeswoman says e-cigarettes can legally be smoked at indoor venues because Ohio law addresses the burning of tobacco.
