STOW -- Two people were hurt late Saturday night after police say a wrong-way driver hit an oncoming vehicle head-on on State Route 8.

Stow police say just before midnight they received multiple 911 calls regarding a driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 8. As officers were en route to intercept the wrong-way driver, he collided with an oncoming pickup truck near Seasons Road.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, the driver of the wrong-way vehicle had attempted to run away. Officers located him nearby and he along with the driver hit in the collision were taken to the hospital.

The wrong way driver is a 29-year-old man from Minerva who was driving a Ford Escape. The victim is from Akron was driving a Ford F-150.

Charges are pending in the case. Police say alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
