Montgomery, AL (Sports Network) - Alabama State's football team will be eligible for postseason play this season after the NCAA removed sanctions that it levied last month.
The penalties were levied because of subpar Academic Progress Rate scores, but the NCAA lifted them from Alabama State's baseball, volleyball and men's basketball teams as well as the football program.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference university submitted additional data to the NCAA during an adjustment phase.
APR scores measure the classroom performance of a team over a four-year period. The scores announced last month reflect the 2008-09 through 2011-12 school years.
The overall four-year APR score in Division I is 974. A minimum score of 900, or 930 over the most recent two academic years, is required for postseason eligibility.
