CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitalsare among the top 18 hospitals in the nation, according to new rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.
Out of more than 5,000 hospitals considered nationwide, the breadth and depth of both institutions have earned eachhigh distinction on the U.S. News & World Report 2013-2014 Honor Roll.
Cleveland Clinic is ranked 4th on the list and UH Case Medical Center rounds out the list of 18 hospitals at number 18.
Cleveland Clinic is in the top 10 in 14 of the 16 specialties the publication tracks, including a number 1 ranking for cardiology and heart surgery. Other top 10 honors include cancer, diabetes/endocrinology, ear/nose/throat, gastroenterology/GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology/neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology, rheumatology and urology.
In addition, UH is nationally ranked in 12 specialties the publication tracks -- including top 20 rankings in six of those specialties (cancer, cardiology/heart surgery, ear/nose/throat, gastroenterology/GIsurgery, orthopedics and urology).
UH Case Medical Center improved its ranking in 11 specialties, earning its best ranking in hospital history in seven specialities, a UH spokesperson said.
Cleveland Clinic and UH Case Medical Center rank first and second in Ohio respectively.
