AKRON -- A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to life behind bars for admittedly murdering somebody in order to increase his rank in a gang.

On July 21, 2012, Corey Hardison fatally shot 35-year-old Karma Tamang on Blaine Avenue before running off.

Tamang, who was a recent immigrant from Bhutan, had been sitting in his car.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh says Hardison put his gun and T-shirt into a backpack after the shooting and threw it in the backyard of a home on Alberti Court.

The following day, Hardison and a fellow game member stole a flat-screen TV from a home on Robinette Court.

Hardison pleaded guilty on June 14 to murder, participation in a criminal gang and burglary.

He will be eligible for parole in 2031.
