BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- As expected and hoped for by fans, 'N Sync got back together on stage at Sunday's MTV VMAs after breaking up more than a decade ago.
And they were as smooth as ever.
Tucked into the middle of a Justin Timberlake set, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, J.C. Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick appeared alongside JT to sing and dance, performing snippets from their hits Girlfriend and Bye Bye Bye.
It was over way too fast.
Lady Gaga, sporting a seashell bikini left over from her performance, danced in the crowd. Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez smiled and danced. One Direction bopped along with the music.
Timberlake went on to perform his newer hits Suit & Tie and Mirrors. The other guys, shown backstage, were giving the MTV cameras thumbs-up.
"What was that?! It happened!" said Jimmy Fallon after the performance, where he went on to present Timberlake with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. "That was unbelievable, man. ... He's the best in the business!"
The crowd loved it all.
But the crowd didn't love it when Kevin Hart took the stage soon after and made fun of them, saying, "They were out of shape! They gained some weight, didn't they? ... I saw Joey fart. He farted." The cracks fell flat.
