SANDUSKY -- New rides, improvements to Camp Snoopy, a roller coaster name change and hotel renovations are all part of Cedar Point's plan for next summer.
First, the Gemini Midway is getting a big transformation with a pair of new family rides in 2014.
Pipe Scream, a Disk'O Coaster, takes riders on a spinning journey over 302 feet of track.
The ride, which reaches a maximum height of 43 feet, will top out at 43 mph.
The second new ride -- Lake Erie Eagles -- will be located directly across from Pipe Scream. Lake Erie Eagles is a Flying Scooters ride that takes passengers in one of eight carriages that are suspended from arms more than 28 feet above the ground.
As Lake Erie Eagles begins its cycle, the carriages will swing outward. Cedar Point says each ride carriage is equipped with a paddle to allow guests to alter their ride experience from "mild to wild."
In addition, changes are coming to the Camp Snoopy kids' area.
The kid-friendly Frog Hopper ride will be relocated to Camp Snoopy and re-themed as Woodstock's Airmail while the Jr. Gemini roller coaster will be renamed Wilderness Run and its entrance will be moved into Camp Snoopy. These two rides will join the Tilt-A-Whirl, Lolli Swing and Camp Bus, bringing Camp Snoopy's ride count up to nine rides, many of which parents can ride side-by-side with their children.
"We are excited about these new additions to the park," said Jason McClure, incoming Vice President and General Manager of Cedar Point. "Following the successful introduction of GateKeeper, we believe these new rides and upgrades will continue to make Cedar Point the perfect vacation destination for families of all ages."
The beginning of a two-year Hotel Breakers renovation project will also commence this winter. Phase one will include upgrading a portion of the exterior of Hotel Breakers, while phase two will take place over the 2014-2015 winter season and will feature upgrades to both the exterior and interior of the hotel. Located between the sandy shore of Lake Erie and the mountainous roller coasters of Cedar Point, Hotel Breakers features more than 500 rooms.
Earlier this month, Kings Island, which is Cedar Point's sister park near Cincinnati, announced plans to buildBanshee -- the world's longest inverted roller coaster.
