August Review

It was a cooler and drier August compared to normal for most of Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland's August mean temperature was 71 degrees, which was one degree below normal. Akron and Canton's August mean temperature was 70.5 degrees, which was normal. Mansfield's August mean temperature was 69.4 degrees, which was 0.6 degrees below normal.

In terms of heat, the highest temperature reach in Cleveland was 94 degrees. The longest stretch of 90 degree weather was felt in Mansfield (also Toledo) with a total of 5 days in a row.

These cities also recorded below normal rainfall, with Cleveland down 0.70 inches, Akron-Canton down 1.77 inches, and Mansfield down 2.49 inches.

Meteorological Summer Review

As far as meteorological summer goes (June, July, August), it started off wet and cool but slowly dried and warmed.

The Akron-Canton region recorded the highest above normal mean temperature for the summer. The region's mean temperature of 71 degrees, which was 0.9 degrees above normal. Cleveland recorded a mean temperature of 71.3 degrees, which was about 0.3 degrees below normal. Mansfield recorded a mean temperature of 70 degrees, which was 0.2 degrees above normal. Youngstown recorded a mean temperatures of 68.7 degrees, which was normal. Toledo recorded a mean temperature of 70.5 degrees, which was one degree below normal.

Between June 1 and August 31, Cleveland received 15.62 inches of rain, which was 5.22 inches above normal. The Cleveland area record 37 days with measurable rainfall, 6 more days than normal. Cleveland also recorded close to a month's worth of days (25 days) where at least 0.10 inches of rain fell. June, in particular, came in the fifth wettest for Cleveland since 1872.
