TheBetter Business Bureaus servicing the Central Ohio and Cleveland areas are issuing a joint warning to consumers about Wellness Laser Center & Med Spa located at 470 Olde Worthington Rd, Ste. 200, Westerville, Ohio, and 3401 Enterprise Pkwy, Ste 340 in Beachwood, Ohio
This company first came to the attention of BBB when consumers reported problems with the laser liposuction or "lipolaser" services they had purchased from Wellness Laser Center.
All of the consumers had purchased package deals through popular deal-of-the-daywebsites, and nearly all reported many unreturned phone calls and excessive delays (up to six months) in scheduling their pre-paid appointments.
The experiences reported by consumers once appointments were made were even worse.
A Twinsburg woman described her visit to Wellness Laser Center as "something out of a Saturday Night Live sketch" and a "nightmare."
According to her, the lipolaser services were performed by two young, inexperienced women who could not answer her questions and the location, an office building in Beachwood, had no signage or professional certifications posted.
A Bedford Heights woman told BBB, "I went in for a consultation with some young girl who clearly was not a doctor, she tried to sell me these expensive packages to get more Lipo Laser treatments. When I declined to purchase anymore, my consultation was over and she said someone would give me a call to schedule my three treatments. Needless to say no one ever called me."
A Chagrin Falls woman reported similar problems with her initial "consultation," even though it was conducted by the owner herself, Martina Flemings. According to the consumer, Ms. Flemings was unprofessional, asked few questions herself, gave only short answers when asked, and seemed most interested in scheduling future lipolaser sessions.
A Columbus woman questioned the clinic's medical and business practices. "I was unable to reach anyone at the office for days. When I reached someone, the level of customer service was non-existent. I was told a doctor would be performing the assessment. I sat in the waiting room for 35 minutes waiting. There was no doctor."
Her concerns were repeated by a Westerville man who purchased a coupon from Groupon to try the service. He said his "appointments were scheduled six months out due to high volume." He indicated he sat in the lobby for over an hour observing how the clinic was run and determined it was not a safe environment to receive medical treatments. He stated, "This is an unorganized, unprofessional clinic." He cancelled his appointments and requested a refund, which was declined.
Since opening our file in 2011, BBB has contacted Wellness Laser Center and Med Spa several times regarding consumer complaints.
Wellness Laser Center and Med Spa has aBBB rating of "F" due to serious and unanswered customer complaints as well as a pattern of customer complaints.
BBB has also questioned whether a licensed physician is used to perform the treatments. BBB confirmed with the Ohio Medical Board that in Ohio, laser liposuction services may only be performed by a licensed physician.
After contacting both consumers and Wellness Laser Center itself (which advertises that its services are performed by "certified techs"), BBB has been unable to confirm that a licensed physician administers the treatments.
BBB has referred this information to the Ohio Medical Board and Ohio Attorney General for further investigation.

In response to our seven, listed Better Business Bureau Complaints-Columbus Wellness Center and Med Spa has treated over 7000 customers since opening our doors in 2010. We take great pride in our services...and we don't look lightly upon one dissatisfied client. Therefore, we are proud to say that only 1/100th of a percent of the more than 7000 clients served, had a bad experience. In addition, since our opening, no one has ever been injured or made ill from our treatments. A Physician is not required by law to be part of the staff for our laser treatments. Our certifications have been kept up to date, and today...like most days, we treated several satisfied, repeat customers.
Our goal in the future is to simply add more staff to service our phones and give customers more expedient service.
