The launch comes as the Canadian smartphone maker continues to ponder a possible sale of the company amid tough competition from fellow smartphone makers like Apple Inc. and Samsung.

BlackBerry's 10.2 operating system will be rolled out to existing Z10, Q10 and Q5 smartphone owners starting in October. Each wireless carrier will determine its exact launch date on their respective networks.
