AVON LAKE -- The wife of North Ridgeville police chief Michael Freeman pleaded not guilty through her attorney J. Anthony Rich inAvon Lake Municipal Court Thursday morning.
Rich said Elaine R. Freeman, 42, pleads not guiltyto shoplifting $188 worth of items from Kohl's in Avon Commons on Saturday.
She was taken into custody without incident last Saturday and was also arrested for shoplifting Nov. 21, 2012,that time at the Target at the same shopping complex.
In both incidents, she had her young child with her, police said.
Regarding her first arrest for shoplifting, she originally pleaded not guilty Nov. 27, 2012, but,on March 19, 2013, changed her plea to no contest.
She was found guilty, fined $250 and received a 30-day jail sentence which was suspended.
Freeman, the North Ridgeville chief, was reprimanded and ordered to undergo anger management following his wife's last arrest for an argument he had with Avon police.
