AKRON -- Two Akron police officers injured in an early morning crash remain hospitalized but do not have life threatening injuries according to a department spokesman.

The two officers were hurt around 5:30 a.m. this morning while responding to a burglary call.

According to Lt. Rick Edwards, the officers were southbound on East Avenue when a minivan headed northbound attempted to turn left onto Iona Avenue in front of the cruiser.

A father and son in the van were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

The officers' names are being withheld pending the notification of family. The driver of the police cruiser is a six year veteran. The passenger has been on the force for less than a year.
