Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Bass scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Boston Celtics closed out their preseason schedule with a 101-97 win over the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden.
Bass added nine rebounds in the victory, only the second in eight preseason tests for the rebuilding Celtics. Avery Bradley also finished with 16 points, with Vitor Faverani contributing 15 and ex-Net Gerald Wallace putting up 14 on 5-of-7 shooting.
Tyshawn Taylor led the Nets, who sat out their entire starting five of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and former Celtic greats Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, with 15 points. Andray Blatche had 14 points in the loss.
The teams were tied at 75-75 when Bass scored on a putback dunk with 8:17 left. The basket started a 12-5 run capped by Courtney Lee's 3-pointer that sent Boston up by an 87-80 count with 5:15 remaining.
Brooklyn pulled within one, 93-92, on a Mirza Teletovic trey with two minutes to go, but the Celtics recorded the next six points to stay in front.
Boston will open its regular season next Wednesday at Toronto.
