CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Police are asking for your help in identifying an SUV, a suspect in a hit-skip that killed a five-year-old little boy.
The photos were taken by a camera on a school bus as the suspect vehicle passed it at West 37th and Denison Avenue Friday morning.
The suspect vehicle is the mid-sized, four-door SUV seen next to the school bus.
The vehicle is a newer model vehicle with a rounded front end, tapered rear window, no luggage rack and either white, silver or light grey in color.
Victim Israel Thornton's parents say this a start that could lead to answers about what happened to their little boy. And those answers, could help them heal.
"Come forward. What's right is right. What's wrong is wrong. It was something wrong that happened. It needs to be right," saidIsrael's father, Theo Thornton. "[We] need you to turn yourself in.Help us out by giving us a little bit more closure on our child."
Israel's parents say they understand if the driver was scared, or simply didn't realize what was done. But to move forward, the familyneeds continued support, and they need to forgive.
"You're forgiven," says Israel's mother, Leah Simmons, to that mystery driver. "The closure is I want to know like what happened?"
What happened to a little boy who loved to learn and loved to pray? His church family knows God will find an answer.
"What's done in the dark will come to light," said Brian Timberlake, the youth pastor at Speak Life Ministries, where Israel and his family attended worship and prayer sessions weekly. "We're standing on that. Eventually it's going to come to pass, eventually that person won't be able to live with themselves knowing that you took a five-year-old life."
