CLEVELAND - Windy conditionshelped hasten the fallof autumn leavesas winds gusted to near 50 m.p.h. across the area on Thursday.
A line of showers accompaniedstrong winds that moved through the area during the late morning and early afternoon hours. This cold front was part of a deep low pressure system off to our northwest.
The highest wind gust was51 m.p.h.at the Lorain/Elyria Airport in Lorain County, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland. At Hopkins, gustsreached 49 m.p.h. around noon and 46 m.p.h. in downtown Cleveland at Burke Lakefront Airport.
The storm system to our northwest will continue moving through the central Great Lakes region on Friday and will bring us another chance of showers Friday afternoon and Saturday.
Clearing weather and warmer temperatures will likely return on Sunday according to WKYC Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling.
