CLEVELAND -- Some of the world's best tennis players will be in Cleveland this winter as part of the Fed Cup.

The USTA has announced Cleveland's Public Auditorium has been selected as the host site for the 2014 Fed Cup first round match-up between the USA and reigning Fed Cup champion, Italy.

The best-of-five match series begins on Saturday, February 8, with two singles matches and is followed by two reverse singles matches and the doubles match on Sunday, February 9.

Fed Cup is the world's largest international team competition.

"I am thrilled that Fed Cup is headed to Cleveland for the first time," said U.S. Fed Cup Team Captain Mary Joe Fernandez. "Italy is a tough team with a strong record in Fed Cup, and playing them is always challenging and exciting for us. Living in Cleveland, I am happy that Ohio will get to see some high-quality tennis, and I expect tennis fans to fill the stands to cheer on Team USA."

"The City of Cleveland is proud to host the 2014 Fed Cup between the U.S. and Italy," said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. "Cleveland has a rich history of hosting sporting events of this caliber and we are certain that the USTA, the athletes and spectators will have an outstanding experience at the event and around our great city."

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 6, with a USTA member pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, December 4. Fans can call the U.S. Fed Cup hotline at (888) 334-8782 or visit http://www.usta.com/Pro-Tennis/Fed-Cup/FedCup/
