MENTOR -- Police are investigating a weekend incident in Mentor during which an officer fired on a suspect who police say was charging at officers.

Police were called to the residence on Deepwood Boulevard for a disturbance around 10:30 p.m. on December 14.

A man who lived at the residence had allegedly been threatening other residents if police were called. When officers arrived, police say the man refused to talk and made threats about stabbing the officers.

As officers entered man's house they found the front door barricaded. Police say the man then charged at them with an object in his hand. An officer fired one shot that did not hit the man or anyone else.

The man was taken into custody and charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Police are still investigating.
