ELYRIA -- Residents in Elyria are attempting to return to normal after a house explosion leveled a house and damaged several others.

Emergency workers received as many as 30 frantic 911 calls around 9:45 p.m. about a loud explosion in their neighborhood.

Firefighters even reported hearing a loud explosion at the fire station.

The house that exploded is located at 116 Columbia Avenue and was vacant. That building was completely destroyed.

Several homes adjacent to the blast site were also damaged and will need to be demolished in the next few days.

Both neighboring homes were occupied at the time of the explosion. Three people were treated on scene for minor injuries.

Fire crews estimate the blast radius to be about 500 feet. Debris from the blast was found 3 streets away.

Aside from the homes that need to be demolished, dozens other homes on the street had damage to siding and windows.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Crews are also continuing to assess the damage total for the entire neighborhood.
