As Channel 3 continues to help you prepare for the bitter cold weather that's on the way, here's some advice to help keep your home and your pipes winter ready.

There are few things worse than frozen or burst pipes.

So, to help you get ahead of the storm, we went straight to the experts from H Jack's Plumbing and Heating to break it all down.

John Langer has been in the plumbing business since he was ten years old.

And here's what he says you should do before it gets ridiculously cold on Monday and Tuesday.

First, if you have any pipes in a crawl space or basement that are exposed to a draft, "try to get some type of electric heat in that crawl space," says Langer.

If you've had any issues with freezing lines in the past, "leave a little bit of water dripping in the residence in lower level fixtures," says Langer.

Or if you're going out of town, "shut the water down at the main shut off valve in the basement. And put a little antifreeze in traps throughout the home... toilets , sinks, tubs."

Basically, just plan ahead and be ready...

Langer is ready. All of his 70 employees will be standing by on Monday and Tuesday, just in case.

"Every employee we have will be ready to service customers in time of need next week," says Langer.
