AKRON -- Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh said a jury found Bryan Giles, 20, of Akron, guilty of:

  • Aggravated Murder with one firearm specification and three death specifications
  • Attempted Murder, a felony of the first degree, with one firearm specification
  • Aggravated Burglary, a felony of the first degree, with one firearm specification
  • Aggravated Robbery, a felony of the first degree, with one firearm specification
  • Felonious Assault, a felony of the second degree, with one firearm specification
  • Tampering with Evidence, a felony of the third degree
  • Receiving Stolen Property, a felony of the fourth degree.

On Feb. 5, Giles climbed through a window of the home of his cousins and shot them both in the head. Jarrell Cunningham, 27, died immediately. Terrell Patterson, 21, survived two gunshot wounds.

The mitigation phase, during which the jury determines whether Giles should be sentenced to death, is scheduled to begin on March 11.
