CLEVELAND -- The extreme weather means some extreme expenses. ODOT says the cost of keeping our roads clear is more than double what it was last year.
For the winter season from Oct. 1 to today Wednesday, ODOT has used more than 772,000 tons of salt and spent more than $80.1 million statewide.
Last year during the same period ODOT used more than 332,000 tons of salt, adding up to $37.5 million.
What about heating schools in this weather? Dominion East Ohio says districts will vary, but January has been 15 percent colder than normal, so a good estimate would be that bills will likely be up about 15 percent as well.
