RILEY TOWNSHIP -- An Indiana man was killed Wednesday when he crashed his semi on U.S. Route 6 in Sandusky County.
John D. Laven, 38, of Bedford, Ind., was driving a white 2006 International truck and flatbed trailer carrying lumber westbound about 12:30 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road.
The impact caused the load to shift and the cab to become dislodged from the frame. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Laven was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, according to the Fremont post of the State Highway Patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Clyde Fire Department, Sandusky County EMS, the Lucas County coroner, ODOT, the EPA and Madison's Towing.
