SOLON -- Other drivers were lucky that the wrong-way driver on Route 422 going westbound in the eastbound lanes about 2:30 a.m. Sunday did it when there was not a lot of traffic.

The driver wasn't so lucky.

Police say that a patrol officer who had just completed a traffic stop on US 422 saw a burgundy Dodge Durango traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

While the officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, he saw the vehicle drive across the center grass median and lurch back onto the westbound side of US 422.

The officer caught up to the vehicle and stopped it at the Orange Village line.

The driver, Travis Frick, 34, of Parma Heights, said he was trying to get back to his home to Parma Heights and mistakenly got on the wrong side of the roadway.

Frick stated that he hadn't been drinking but indicated that he was overly tired.

Officers stated that they didn't smell alcohol on his breath or person but had Frick perform the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test nonetheless.

Officers concluded that there were not indicators that led them to believe that Frick was impaired.

However, a routine check revealed that Frick was driving with a suspended driver's license. He was placed under arrest and charged with driving under suspension and illegally crossing a divided highway.
