Fourth of July fireworks are to arrive a day early in Boston.

Producers of the annual Boston Pops fireworks and concert said Wednesday that weather concerns for July 4 have prompted them to move up the event by one day.

Steve MacDonald, spokesman for Boston 4 Productions, said a Thursday night concert was already scheduled as a dress rehearsal before TV cameras, but without the fireworks. Now producers will make that concert the main event, with fireworks to follow, he said.

"To get the fireworks in we are pushing up the whole concert,'' he said.

The event is held each year on the Esplanade in Boston.

The change is the result of the threat of bad weather, including rain and high winds, posed by approaching Tropical Storm Arthur. MacDonald said winds must be less than 20 mph for the fireworks show to go on.
