CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Police Mounted Unit got their suspect.

On Monday, CPD Mounted Unit Officers Sieger and Herrin were patrolling Public Square on horseback when Sieger observed an assault occur within a large crowd.

Sieger saw a teenage boy strike another teenage boy in the side of the head, knocking him to the ground.

Police said the high vantage point of being on horseback allowed the officers to keep the suspect in view as he fled through the crowd.

The officers pursued the suspect on horseback as he ran toward the entrance to Tower City. The suspect then entered the doors of Tower City and Herrin dismounted, pursuing the teen on foot.

The teen ran toward the RTA rapid station and boarded a train.

Herrin followed the teen onto the train and arrested him.

The victim, 17, was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of a head injury. The suspect was booked for felonious assault.
