Two officers collided with another vehicle at the intersection of South Arlington Street and 5th Avenue while responding to the robbery.
AKRON -- Two police officers were involved in a crash following a robbery at Church's Chicken.
Two black men entered the restaurant on South Arlington Street around 9 p.m. Friday armed with handguns. They jumped over the counter and demanded money. The suspects fled with an undetermined amount of cash and an employee's cell phone.
While responding to the robbery, the officers were involved in an accident at the intersection of South Arlington Street and 5th Avenue. The officers' vehicle lights were activated but no siren was used because of the close proximity of the robbery.
The two officers, both veterans of the police force, were taken to Akron City Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Akron General Medical Center. None of the injuries appear life-threatening.
The accident remains under investigation. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the accident and actions of the female driver.
Police are still searching for the robbery suspects at this time.
