BEDFORD -- Police say the driver who struck a pedestrian Sunday has turned herself in to police. The pedestrian, 51, whose name has not been released, is still in critical but stable condition at MetroHealth Medical Center. She had been walking southbound on Center Road near Elm Street.

On Monday, Sandra Auletta, 46, of Chesterland, voluntarily turned herself in at the Bedford Police Department.

Auletta has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a felony of the fifth degree. She was processed and released on a $5,000 personal bond.

Auletta said she was following a friend to a local automobile accessory shop when she struck the pedestrian. At the time, Auletta was unsure of what she had struck and proceeded home.

Later that evening, Auletta and her friend saw the news story on the pedestrian struck in Bedford.

Auletta believed she was responsible for hitting the pedestrian and did the right thing and contacted an attorney and made arrangements to come to the police station.
