CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office says Geoffrey Gurkovich, 32, the man accused of fatally shooting 5-year-old Jermani Brooks back on Jan. 19, has been officially indicted for aggravated murder.
Gurkovich is in the Cuyahoga County Jail, being held on $5 million bond.
It was late Jan. 19 when police say Gurkovich allegedly stepped out of his SUV and opened fire near 130th Street and Crossburn Avenue. Jermani and her mother, 33-year-old Noni Brooks, were both shot in the face. They were sitting in a nearby vehicle.
Noni Brooks survived.
Police say Gurkovich's girlfriend was the intended target -- not Jermani and her mother.
There were two other children in the car at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.
Gurkovich has been in and out of court for the last 10 years on charges of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, and domestic violence.
