AKRON -- A 24-year-old Akron man will spend the next seven years behind bars for a home invasion late last year.
Monte Harris was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to burglary earlier this month.
Prosecutors say it was in the early morning hours of Dec. 22 when an Akron couple awoke to noises in the kitchen.
The homeowner, armed with a gun, found Harris and ordered him to freeze. When Harris lunged, the homeowner fired at him. The bullet missed Harris, who prosecutors say ran to the basement in an attempt to escape through a window.
The homeowner kept Harris at gunpoint until police arrived.
