CHESTER TOWNSHIP -- One man is dead and two other people were hospitalized after their golf cart went over an embankment.

The accident happened around 1:15 a.m. on Lehr Rd., just east of Rathburn Rd. in Chester Township.

Wooster resident Craig L. Franks, 42, was driving an E-Z Go Golf Car westbound on Lehr, when he swerved off the left side of the road. The golf cart traveled over an embankment, overturned and ejected Franks and his two passengers.

Robert M. Moore, age 49 of Jeromesville, was the front seat passenger. Moore sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

Vicky L. White, age 47 of Jersomesville, was seated in the back seat. She and Franks were taken to Wooster Community Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and alcohol are both believed to be factors in the crash.

Franks was charged with operating a vehicle with intoxicated, unsafe speed and failure to maintain control. He may face more charges after results from a blood alcohol test.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
