CLEVELAND -- Many in the neighborhood remember going to school at Willson when they were kids. Now it is an eyesore in this neighborhood on East 55th Street.

Willson School closed in 2005, and it has been a constant battle to keep vandals out. It was designated a landmark, and the Cleveland Schools hoped to get permission to demolish it, but the landmark commission denied them.

People have gotten into the building, taken down fences and boards to gain access to the school. City Councilman T.J. Dow had hoped that a developer would want to buy the building, but so far that has not happened.

Dow says he has also asked the district to completely board up all the windows, not just the first floor windows.

The district may again ask to demolish the building.
