Lakewood Students help out on Election Day
LAKEWOOD -- The best way to learn about the electoral process is by taking part in it so a group of high school students participated in a unique way.
Lakewood High School government students staffed the polls in their community on Tuesday, greeting and directing voters.
They trained as poll workers through the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
It's a win-win for both, as the county received a good pool of interested poll workers and the students got hands-on experience with the electoral process.
This is the third year students from Lakewood have done this. They do get paid for their work on Election Day and they also work the same long hours as other poll workers -- from 5:30 a.m. until the polls close at 8 p.m.
