LAKEWOOD -- The Lakewood High School band director has been charged with sexual battery in connection to a student.

Nathan Harris of Lakewood appeared in Rocky River Municipal Court on Wednesday.

The school has put Harris on administrative leave during the investigation.

They sent out a release to parents notifying them of the incident.

Harris is banned from school property and from having any contact with students or staff.

Metroparks police arrested Harris late Tuesday in a Rocky River park.

Police have not said if he was with the student at the time of the arrest.

INVESTIGATION: Teachers disciplined

The school district is also conducting its own investigation.

Harris has been with the school district for two years and Lakewood High School for one.

Residents are shocked at the allegations.

"It's kind of shocking because you think that people in that professional atmosphere hold themselves more accountable in and outside of school," said Allie Spurling.

The school has asked students not to contact Harris director during the investigation.

The high school will open Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. To 3:30 p.m. for anyone who would like counseling or support.
