NORTHFIELD -- Jon Lucas has a gift for understatement. He's the president of the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park.
The $268 million gaming facility opens Wednesday (Dec. 18) with 2,242 more lottery terminals. All that remains is to install the signature Hard Rock guitar at the front entrance.
"The facility is spectacular. We think it's a very comfortable feel. It's got a great contemporary look. When you walk in, it's like 'wow,'" Lucas said.
Wow is right. The 200,000-square-foot Rocksino has 2,242 video lottery terminals throughout. There are four restaurants, including Bernie Kosar's Wood Fired Grill; a 2,000 seat "Hard Rock Live" concert venue; plus two smaller stages.
It's all tied in to the Hard Rock brand.
Lucas added, "With the entertainment aspect, and the food and beverage, making a true entertainment destination, I really think we can grow the market and expand our reach a little further than what's being done now."
The 750 employees of the Rocksino are going through training as the last pieces of rock memorabilia are going on the walls --the rock and roll theme adding excitement to the visually stunning entertainment and gaming venue.
They've set a lofty goal.
"We're going to make everybody feel like a rock star when they come in, "Lucas said.
