CLEVELAND -- If you're heading downtown to ring in the New Year, bundle up.
The cold temperature, combined with a little alcohol, could make for a dangerous combination.
Combine the cold with alcohol and you could end up with hypothermia quicker than expected.
Doctors say it only takes one drink for your body to start lowering its core temperature. And you won't even know it.
Alcohol makes your skin feel warm. But what's really happening is that you're losing heat from your organs.
Besides keeping warm, police also suggest finding a designated driver, like RTA.
"Please, dress in layers. Take RTA, responsible behavior, and there are plenty of activities for everyone to have a terrific time," said Commander Harold Pretel, with the Cleveland Police Department.
Officers are patrolling the downtown area as well as the suburbs.
Police say they have plenty of room in the jail if you're caught drinking and driving.
