DENVER -- Could marijuana soon be legal across the nation?

While they don't necessarily support it, three-fourths of Americans who voted in a new poll say nationwide legalization seems inevitable.

The Pew Research Center conducted the poll about the nation's shifting attitudes about drug policies.

The survey also suggests that the public supports a national move away from mandatory sentences for non-violent drug offenders.

The poll showed growing acceptance of pot use, too.

Only 15% of the people surveyed said they would be bothered if people in their neighborhood used marijuana in their own homes.

63% said they would be bothered by public marijuana use.

The telephone survey reached 1,821 adults across the country.

The margin of error is estimated at about 2.6 percentage points.
