AKRON -- A Hudson doctor accused of rape and gross sexual imposition was back in court on New Year's Eve.

Dr. James P. Bressi, 59, of Hudson, was in Summit County Common Pleas Court Tuesday morning. The status hearing saw prosecutors add four supplemental charges to the existing 23 counts.

His trial, originally set for January, has been re-scheduled to now begin May 19. Both sides agreed the trial will likely last about 2 weeks.

The judge scheduled the next status hearing for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 25.

On Tuesday, the prosecutor added four supplemental charges to the existing 23 to 27. Bressi had attorney Mike Callahan with him in court and Bressi pleaded not guilty to the supplemental charges.

He had pleaded not guilty to the original 23 charges on Sept. 4. The original charges were one count of rape, 11 counts of gross sexual imposition and 11 counts of sexual imposition.

Bressi was indicted Aug. 29 by a Summit County grand jury after an 18-month investigation by Stow Police.

Bressi was arrested Aug. 30 at his Victoria Parkway home by the Hudson and Stow Police Departments, the Northeast Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Summit County Sheriff's Department.

The indictment alleges Bressi assaulted the patients under his care from September, 2011 to March, 2013 while he was employed at Summit Pain Specialists in Stow.
