AKRON -- The jury in the rape trial of Dr. James Bressi of Hudson deliberated for more than four hours Monday before it was sent home without reaching a verdict.

The jury returns Tuesday morning to resume deliberations.

Assistant Summit County Prosecutor Brian LoPrinzi called Bressi bold and brash for trying to convince the jury that patients mistook a bottle of sweetener and a supplement called silver for his private parts.

Bressi testified that he carried both bottles in his pants for 10 years.

In closing arguments, Bressi's lawyer, Michael Callahan, compared the case against his client to the piles of dog feces he said he had to pick up in his backyard over the weekend.

"They want you lump together each and every one of these piles and put them together and, if they throw enough at you, it's not going to smell good and you'll think something's wrong," Callahan said.

He was referring to the 11 women who testified that Bressi forced them to touch his private parts while he was examining them at Summit Pain Specialists.

"Essentially, they have just been called piles of crap. Isn't that what was just said? Basically, they are little piles of crap that stink," said LoPrinzi, who sarcastically criticized the defense lawyer's argument.

Bressi faces a 27-count indictment including charges of rape. If convicted, he faces up to 22 years behind bars on the rape charges alone.

"He [Bressi] is scared because his whole life is flashing before him. His whole life is in your hands," Callhan told the jury.
