A key figure in the ongoing federal probe of Pilot Flying J has been terminated, according to a lawyer for the former Pilot vice president for sales.

Roger Dickson, a Chattanooga attorney representing John Freeman, said Friday that Freeman, who was vice president of sales before he was placed on administrative leave over a year ago, was terminated earlier this month.

Pilot Flying J investigation grinds on year after raid

Freeman figured prominently in an affidavit filed by an FBI agent detailing an alleged scheme in which Pilot sales executives routinely cheated truckers out of millions of dollars in promised rebates.

According to a transcript of a secretly taped sales meeting, Freeman told his Pilot colleagues that Pilot CEO James Haslam also was aware of the rebate skimming scheme.

Haslam has repeatedly denied any knowledge of the scheme.

Freeman was one of several top Pilot executives dismissed this month.

The others included Pilot's former president Mark Hazelwood and Pilot regional sales executive Vince Greco, who was based in Texas.

Ten Pilot sales executives already have entered guilty pleas in the federal investigation and await sentencing.

The next appearance in their cases is scheduled for August. (SOURCE: The Tennessean)
