VERMILION TOWNSHIP -- A man had to be LifeFlighted to a Cleveland hospital after a car crash in Vermilion Township Sunday.

Gary L. McKisic, 47, of South Amherst was westbound on Kneisel Road in a 2007 Ford Focus at 12:36 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road. According to the Sandusky post of the State Highway Patrol, he then over-corrected and went off the left side of the road, striking a rock and two trees.

McKisic was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center. He was in critical condition Sunday night, according to a nursing supervisor.

The crash is still under investigation, and McKisic has not been cited. According to the patrol, he was wearing a seat belt.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Erie County Sheriff's Office and the Vermilion Township Fire Department.
