BRATENAHL -- Just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, state highway patrol troopers say there was a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 eastbound, west of the Eddy Road underpass.
Troopers say Robert Louis Dunn Jr., 22, of Cleveland, was driving eastbound in a bronze 2000 Ford Explorer SUV when he abruptly drove off the right side of the road. The Explorer struck the curb, a construction sign, a fence and overturned. It came to rest on its wheels facing westbound on the right berm of I-90.
Troopers say the SUV sustained heavy damage and the driver told troopers he was wearing his seatbelt.
His sole passenger was his mother, Felicia L. Dunn, 47, also of Cleveland, who was seated in the right front seat of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.
She was ejected from the SUV during the crash and was taken by EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center where she died from her injuries.
Troopers continue to investigate why Dunn abruptly traveled off the road and the events leading up to his mother's death.
Troopers say that the affected section of Interstate 90 has nightly lane closures due to the Eddy Road Bridge construction. The zone was not in effect but two lanes were closed early due to the crash and they remained closed through the night due to the construction.
Bratenahl Police, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Emergency Squad and Fire personnel assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the scene. This is the 52nd traffic fatality in Cuyahoga County in 2013.
