CONCORD TOWNSHIP -- A section of I-90 was closed for six hours Christmas Eve after a 28 vehicle pileup had closed it down for much of the holiday.
It happened Tuesday morning near Vrooman Road.
Tuesday night some out of town drivers were scrambling to find hotels or rental cars.
"We were hoping to be home with family tonight," said Emily -- who along with her husband Matt (who asked their last name not be used) were driving from Columbus to Upstate New York.
"It was a complete white out," Matt said. "It was very scary. You couldn't do anything but just go straight -- no place to turn off."
In that same hour -- between 10am and 11am there were a total of nine car wrecks due to deteriorating conditions.
"I don't believe construction going on in the area was an issue here," said OSHP Sgt. Troy Sexton.
Eight people were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to fire officials at the scene.
Motorists were detoured off I-90 eastbound at state Route 44 northbound to state Route 2/U.S. Route 20 eastbound.
