CHARDON -- Police say a family is "extremely lucky" that nobody was hurt when a vehicle slammed into their home early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to the scene at 4:35 a.m. in the 500 block of Crocker Blvd. where they found heavy damage to the residence.
The driver fled the scene.
A young child, who would normally be sleeping in a front bedroom where the collision occurred, was sleeping in another bedroom with his mother at the time.
Everybody inside the home walked away uninjured.
Responding officers later located a 2005 Subaru Impreze WRX with heavy damage exiting Irma Drive onto South Hambden Street.
Once they stopped the vehicle, the driver was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, among other charges.
A structural engineer is working to determine if the home is inhabitable as a result of the crash.
