As police continue their manhunt for the gunman responsible for fatally shooting a 5-year-old girl, the City of Cleveland has issued a statement promising that the person responsible will be found and prosecuted.
Little Jermani Brooks died after being shot while sitting in an SUV with her mother. The mother, Noni Brooks, suffered serious injuries but survived.
The shooting happened late Sunday night on Crossburn on the city's west side.

Late Monday, the city issued the following statement:
Every homicide has an impact on our community but that kind of violence toward innocent children is particularly heinous. The individual who shot and killed five year old Jermani Brooks last night on Cleveland's west side will be held accountable. The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit continues to investigate the murder of five year old Jermani and the felonious assault shooting of Noni Brooks.

The family is also asking the public to help find the gunman. A vigil is planned for Thursday, January 23. It would have been Jermani's sixth birthday.
