CLEVELAND – A spokeswoman for MetroHealth Medical Center says a mother shot in the head last weekend has been released from the hospital.

Noni Brooks suffered serious injuries when a man shot her and her daughter inside an SUV on January 19. Brooks' 5-year-old daughter, Jermani, died of her injuries.

Police have arrested Geoffrey Gurkovich in the shootings. He is being held on a $5 million bond after entering a plea of not guilty to a charge of aggravated murder.

Investigators say the family was not the intended target in the shootings, but were at the "wrong place at the wrong time."

The community held a vigil for Jermani on Thursday night and released hundreds of pink balloons in her memory on what would have been her sixth birthday.
