CLEVELAND -- Dominion East Ohio is asking customers to turn down their thermostats and lower the settings on their water heaters during this prolonged below-freezing weather.
They also ask businesses to reduce natural gas uses when possible.
The natural gas provider says these kind of conservation efforts will keep monthly bills down, as well as aiding in the supply of natural gas throughout the region.
"Dominion was able to serve its customers reliably during the extreme cold earlier this month, in part, because many customers took steps to conserve their natural gas use," said Scott Miller, vice president and general manager of Dominion East Ohio.
The company stresses only reducing usage when it is safe, and additional measures can be taken to help maintain heat indoors. Weather-stripping homes and insulating doors and windows, as well as blocking off drafts at the bottoms of doors with a rolled-up throw rug or towel, can help reduce energy use.
