CLEVELAND -- A 73-year-old woman is hospitalized after being shot during a home invasion robbery.
The woman, whose name we are withholding at the family's request, answered the door with her husband just before 3 a.m. Friday. Family members tell Channel 3 they thought it was their son returning to the family home on the 3900 block of Strandhill Road on Cleveland's far east side.
When she realized it was not her son, the woman tried to close the door. That's when one of the suspects fired through the upper glass panel of the door. A bullet struck the victim in the chest area.
Police recovered a .40 caliber shell casing from the scene. Investigators determined there were two sets of footprints at the site. No arrests have been made.
