SOLON -- Police tell Channel 3 that a man was fatally injured after he drove off from a traffic stop just before 2:30 a.m. today.
At 2:23 a.m. today, a police officer stopped a silver 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS on Arthur Road at SOM Center Road, suspecting that the driver was intoxicated, police said.
As the officer approached the stopped vehicle on foot, the suspect driver re-started his car and drove westbound on Arthur Road.

As officers approached the crash scene, they discovered that the driver had been ejected from the vehicle, causing serious injury.
The driver was taken to Hillcrest Hospital by Solon Fire and Rescue personnel. Police say that the hospital informed them that he died from his injuries.
Police say that he is 42 and his last-known addressis in Cleveland. His name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin and positive identification. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office now has the man's body and will provide final identification.
Police say the crash remains under investigation by a regional accident investigation unit. It is unknown at this time why the driver drove off after being stopped but police say that he was driviing with a suspended driver's license.
