AKRON -- Seven Akron police dogs will receive ballistic vests thanks to a nationwide Groupon event that raised more than $250,000 in just over a week.
Grief, Thunder, Recon, Mylo, Bronson, Riggs and Lenny will be outfitted within the next several weeks.
The "Occasions" campaign for Groupon Grassroots to outfit police dogs with vests that are resistant to bullets and stabbing runs through Wednesday. Groupons may be purchased at www.groupon.com/k9s.
Donors purchased a Groupon (a $10 tax deductible donation) through the secure website. All funds are allocated to purchase ballistic vests for the four-legged crime fighters.
