AKRON -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that Jeffrey L. Richardson, 35, of Akron, pleaded guilty to Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance; Attempted Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping; and a community control violation on a previous burglary conviction.
In February 2013, Richardson was posting ads on Craigslist, referencing the sexual exploitation of children. He caught the attention of the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force when he started contacting someone he believed to be the father of a 12-year-old girl.
The father was really an ICAC investigator.
A few months later, Richardson started communicating with another ICAC investigator who was posing as a man with five- and seven-year-old nieces.
Investigators say Richardson was trying to arrange a sexual encounter involving a minor.
Richardson also emailed a nude picture of a young girl to prove he was eager for the arrangement.
Judge Alison McCarty immediately sentenced Richardson to eight years in prison.
Richardson must register as a Tier III sex offender every 90 days for the rest of his life after he is released from prison.
